Dairy-Free Egg-Free Chocolate Sponge Pudding

A warm chocolate sponge pudding made without dairy or eggs, perfect for an easy family dessert.

Ingredients
  

  • 200 g plain flour
  • 30 g cocoa powder
  • 150 g light brown sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 250 ml dairy-free milk
  • 80 ml vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C / 160°C fan / gas mark 4 and lightly grease a medium ovenproof dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the plain flour, cocoa powder, light brown sugar, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, and salt.
  3. Add the dairy-free milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.
  4. Stir until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
  5. Spoon the mixture into the prepared dish and level the top.
  6. Bake for 28–30 minutes, or until the sponge is risen and a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.
  7. Leave to stand for a few minutes before serving.
  8. Serve warm on its own or with a suitable dairy-free custard or dairy-free cream alternative.

Notes

  • This pudding is best served warm straight from the oven.
  • For a richer chocolate flavour, you can add a handful of dairy-free chocolate chips to the sponge mixture.
  • Serve with dairy-free custard, dairy-free cream, or fresh berries if liked.
